2026 Hajj Cost Officially Reduced: Pilgrims to Pay Around Rp54 Million

Good news for future Indonesian pilgrims! The government has officially set the 2026 Hajj cost at Rp87.4 million, about Rp2 million lower than last year’s rate. While this decrease is encouraging, the overall trend still shows that pilgrimage costs tend to rise over time due to inflation and fluctuations in foreign exchange rates.

For those preparing to embark on this spiritual journey, it is important to understand how the Hajj cost is structured and how to plan your savings in a safe and syariah-compliant way.

Breakdown of the 2026 Hajj Cost

Based on the joint decision between Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) and the House of Representatives (Commission VIII), the total Hajj Implementation Cost (BPIH) for 2026 is set at Rp87,409,365.45.

From this amount, Rp54,193,806.58 or the Hajj Travel Cost (Bipih) must be paid directly by each pilgrim.

The remaining Rp33.21 million will be covered by the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH) through the investment returns (nilai manfaat) of the Hajj fund.

Under Law No. 14 of 2025 on Hajj and Umrah Implementation, these funds are allocated for various services and needs, including:

  • Flight tickets and transportation in Saudi Arabia
  • Accommodation and meals during Hajj
  • Services in Arafah, Muzdalifah, and Mina
  • Facilities at embarkation and debarkation points
  • Travel documents and pilgrims’ supplies
  • Living allowance and protection for pilgrims
  • Guidance and general services both in Indonesia and Saudi Arabia

Why the Hajj Cost Continues to Increase

Although there is a slight reduction this year, the overall cost of performing Hajj generally increases each year. Several factors contribute to this, including:

  • Rising living costs in Saudi Arabia, such as food, lodging, and transportation
  • Exchange rate fluctuations, with the rupiah currently around Rp16,500 per US dollar
  • Service improvements to ensure pilgrims’ safety, comfort, and health
  • Adjustments in the investment benefits (nilai manfaat) managed by BPKH to subsidize Hajj operations

Indonesia’s Hajj Quota for 2026

According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Indonesia has been given a quota of 221,000 pilgrims for the 2026 Hajj season.

Of this number:

  • 203,320 seats are allocated for regular pilgrims
  • 17,680 seats for special (plus) pilgrims
  • The remaining quota is reserved for Hajj officers and guides

The total will be divided into 525 flight groups (kloter) departing from multiple embarkation points across Indonesia.
