Finding Peace and Blessings in Every Drop of Rain

The rainy season has arrived, bringing blessings and challenges in equal measure. Rain, a magnificent sign of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala’s greatness, is a time of abundant blessings and a precious moment when our prayers are more likely to be granted. However, it also poses potential concerns, such as the threat of floods that may endanger safety.

As Muslims, we are encouraged to pray to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala for rain that brings benefit and not harm. Referencing guidance from Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag RI), here are the recommended prayers and practices taught by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) during rain.

Prayers for Heavy Rain and Protection from Floods

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) advised this prayer to seek protection from excessive rain that may lead to disasters. This prayer is narrated by Imam Bukhari:

اللَّهُمّ حَوَالَيْنَا وَلَا عَلَيْنَا ,اللَّهُمَّ عَلَى الْآكَامِ وَالْجِبَالِ وَالظِّرَابِ وَبُطُونِ الْأَوْدِيَةِ وَمَنَابِتِ الشَّجَرِ

Allāhumma hawālainā wa lā ‘alainā. Allāhumma ‘alal ākāmi wal jibāli, waz zhirābi, wa buthūnil awdiyati, wa manābitis syajari.

Translation:
“O Allah, let the rain fall around us (as a blessing), not upon us (as a burden). O Allah, let it fall on high grounds, mountains, hills, valleys, and the places where trees grow.”

Prayer When Rain Begins to Fall

Additionally, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) recommended this prayer at the onset of rain:

اَللَّهُمَّ صَيِّبًا هَنِيًّا وَسَيِّبًا نَافِعًا

Allâhumma shayyiban haniyyâ wa sayyiban nâfi‘â.

Translation:
“O my Lord, make this a beneficial and nourishing rain.”

Practices During Rain

  1. Express Gratitude and Pray
  2. Take advantage of this blessed time to increase your supplications, as rain is one of the moments when prayers are most likely to be answered.
  3. Engage in Charity and Show Compassion
  4. If rain causes hardships such as flooding, extend a helping hand to those in need. Charity holds immense significance in Islam and is especially encouraged during trying times.
  5. Remember Allah Through Dhikr
  6. Use the rain as a reminder to deepen your faith and draw closer to Allah by engaging in frequent dhikr (remembrance of Allah).

Incorporate Prayer Into Daily Life

Beyond the rainy season, make praying a daily habit. Did you know? The Muamalat DIN mobile banking app not only simplifies your financial transactions but also includes a daily prayer feature that you can access anytime, anywhere.

Rain is a blessing, with every drop symbolizing Allah’s mercy and love for His servants. Let us embrace this precious time with gratitude, prayers, and righteous deeds to maximize the blessings it brings.

Make this rainy season a time of reflection, generosity, and increased faith.
