Chasing the Blessings of Lailatul Qadar with These Acts of Worship

Lailatul Qadar, the Night of Decree, is a highly revered and blessed night in Islam. Mentioned in the Qur'an as being "better than a thousand months," this night is eagerly awaited by Muslims, particularly during the last ten nights of Ramadan. However, its exact timing remains unknown, so Muslims are encouraged to seek it out by increasing their worship, especially on the odd-numbered nights of the final ten days. Here are some recommended acts of worship to help us earn the blessings of Lailatul Qadar.

1. Performing I'tikaf in the Mosque

One of the most recommended ways to seek the blessings of Lailatul Qadar is by engaging in I'tikaf. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to perform I'tikaf during the last ten nights of Ramadan and encouraged his followers to look for Lailatul Qadar during the odd-numbered nights. I'tikaf involves secluding oneself in the mosque to engage in worship and reflection, away from worldly distractions.

2. Night Prayers (Tahajjud)

Lailatul Qadar is a night filled with forgiveness. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “Whoever prays on the night of Lailatul Qadar with faith and seeking Allah's reward, all his past sins will be forgiven.” (Bukhari, Muslim). Therefore, making time for Tahajjud prayers, especially on the odd-numbered nights, is highly recommended as it greatly increases our chances of receiving the special blessings of Lailatul Qadar.

3. Reciting and Reflecting on the Qur'an

Ramadan is the perfect time to strengthen our connection with Allah through the Qur'an. Reciting, reflecting on, and understanding the Qur'an, as well as increasing our daily recitations, will increase our rewards. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that those who diligently recite the Qur'an will receive double the reward, whether they are proficient in reading it or still learning.

4. Engaging in Dhikr (Remembrance of Allah) and Dua (Supplication)

During Lailatul Qadar, increasing our dhikr and supplications is key to attaining Allah's mercy. Aishah (RA) asked the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) about the best supplication to recite on this blessed night, and he responded, “O Allah, You are the Most Forgiving, and You love to forgive, so forgive me.” (Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, Ahmad). This powerful dua is a plea for forgiveness and can be recited during this blessed night.

5. Seeking Forgiveness (Istighfar)

On the night of Lailatul Qadar, we are encouraged to make sincere repentance for all past sins. Istighfar, seeking forgiveness from Allah, is a means of purifying our hearts and drawing closer to Allah. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) himself said that he sought Allah's forgiveness 100 times in a single day. This act is highly recommended, especially on this auspicious night.

6. Charity (Sadaqah)

Giving in charity is highly encouraged throughout Ramadan, especially during the last ten nights. As mentioned in the hadith, acts of charity performed during Ramadan—particularly during these blessed nights—bring multiplied rewards. By giving even a small portion of our wealth, we can help those in need and earn the blessings of Allah. If direct charity is not possible, you can easily contribute through digital platforms, such as the Hijrah Amal feature in Muamalat DIN.

7. Providing Iftar (Breaking the Fast)

One of the most rewarding acts of worship during Ramadan is providing food for those who are fasting to break their fast. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “Whoever gives food for a fasting person to break their fast, they will receive the same reward as the person who is fasting, without the reward being diminished in the slightest.” (Bukhari, Muslim). Not only does this act bring multiplied rewards, but it also demonstrates compassion and care for others.

May We Be Blessed with Lailatul Qadar

Lailatul Qadar is a golden opportunity granted by Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala for all Muslims. By increasing our acts of worship such as I'tikaf, prayer, Qur'an recitation, dhikr, and charity, we enhance our chances of witnessing this night, which is more rewarding than a thousand months. Let us make the most of the last ten nights of Ramadan with sincerity, seeking the blessings and forgiveness of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

May we all be granted the opportunity to experience the divine mercy and blessings of Lailatul Qadar.
