Muamalat Bank Distributes Rp1.1 Billion in Aid to Lombok Earthquake Victims

Jakarta, 30 August 2018 - PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia Tbk. ("Bank Muamalat") distributed more than Rp1.1 billion in social assistance to earthquake victims in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.

The handover was carried out in Pemenang Timur Village, North Lombok Regency by Bank Muamalat Chief Executive Officer Achmad K. Permana on Thursday, August 30, 2018. Also present at the presentation was Governor of West Nusa Tenggara Province Muhammad Zainul Majdi or familiarly called Tuan Guru Bajang (TGB) .

Permana said, this assistance is part of a form of corporate social responsibility or Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and is expected to be useful and can ease the burden of the victims.

"We are sorry for the disaster that struck the brothers in Lombok. For the initial assistance, we distributed what became their primary needs such as basic necessities. We hope that this assistance can be beneficial for our brothers and sisters who are being affected by the disaster in Lombok," he said.

Previously, Bank Muamalat had channeled the initial phase of assistance in the form of basic and urgent needs such as food ingredients, blankets and emergency tents. While the next phase of assistance, in addition to primary needs, Bank Muamalat also helped provide temporary shelter, sanitation and emergency classes worth around Rp.950 million. The provision of social assistance was channeled through Baitulmaal Muamalat (BMM) as the Bank Muamalat zakat management agency. In addition, the first Islamic bank in Indonesia is also incorporated in the Lombok Disaster Benefit Synergy between the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH) -Asbisindo / BPS-BPIH-Ministry of Religion along with 13 other participating banks and social assistance.

Permana added, his party hoped that assistance for earthquake victims in Lombok could continue through other BMI's flagship CSR programs, such as assistance for education costs and infrastructure through the Muamalat Achievement School program

"We realize there are still many improvements that must be made to restore Lombok. In the future, we hope to contribute to the provision of scholarships or educational infrastructure. Children should not drop out of school because they are the next generation, "he added.

In addition to assistance from the company, Bank Muamalat also opened opportunities for the general public who want to help victims of the earthquake in Lombok through the Bank Muamalat account in the name of Baitulmaal Muamalat 301-007-2163, by adding a unique code 123 at the end of the nominal donation.
